Our editorial standards

How we research, rate, and correct the information on this site — and the lines we will not cross.

Last updated: 2 June 2026

Independence

Our editorial work is independent of our advertising. Ratings and rankings are assigned against published criteria, and no advertiser sees or influences a score before publication. See how we make money for the full picture.

How we research

We work from primary sources where we can: utility and government program pages, regulatory filings, manufacturer specifications, and installer contracts. We date our claims because programs and rates change, and we revise pages when they do.

How we rate installers

Where we publish a verified installer profile, the rating reflects documented criteria: licensing and electrical certification, workmanship warranty, equipment tier, install track record, and pricing transparency. We do not publish a star rating for a company we have not verified, and a 'verified' label links to the evidence behind it.

Honesty about uncertainty

We do not invent statistics, reviews, awards, or certifications, and we do not guarantee savings. When a figure is an estimate or a range, we say so and show the assumptions. When we are not sure, we tell you.

Corrections

We fix mistakes. If you spot an error, email [email protected] and we will review it. Substantive corrections are made promptly and the update date is changed.

Conflicts of interest

Where a commercial relationship exists with a company we write about, it is disclosed. Safety and accuracy always take priority over a referral.
