Solar savings estimator

Set your province, your average monthly power bill, and a system size. We map it against local sun yield, electricity rates, and install prices to sketch production, savings, and payback — every assumption is shown below.

These figures are educational estimates, not a quote. Real production and payback depend on roof angle, shading, snow, panel quality, and how your utility credits exports. Always confirm with certified installers.

Our assumptions

How the math works

We keep the model deliberately simple and transparent so you can sanity-check it. It is a starting point for a conversation with installers, not a binding figure.

  • Production = system size × a provincial yield figure (roughly 1,050–1,300 kWh per kW per year for a well-sited Canadian roof).
  • Consumption is inferred from your bill and an estimated all-in electricity rate for your province.
  • Savings assume net metering credits the power you offset at roughly the retail rate — capped at what you actually use.
  • System cost uses a provincial installed price per watt; payback is cost divided by first-year savings, before incentives.
  • CO₂ uses each province's grid emission factor — small in hydro provinces like Quebec, BC, and Manitoba; larger in Alberta and Saskatchewan.

Rates, yields, and prices are approximate 2025–26 figures and change over time. They exclude rate inflation, battery storage, and financing interest.

Turn an estimate into real quotes

When the numbers look promising, the next step is three itemised quotes from certified installers. We can line them up for you.

No obligation. We pass your request to vetted, certified installers in your area.
